MVCC Volunteer Program: Neighbors helping neighbors
WELCOME TO THE MARVISTA VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
Mar Vista Volunteers is a new initiative of the Outreach Committee of the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC).
Our vision is to have one event each quarter, develop a volunteer corps, and offer volunteer opportunities from each of the MVCC committees.
To sign up for volunteer opportunities, please complete and submit this form.
Three of the criteria we propose to evaluate volunteer opportunities are that they be time limited (2-3 hours), be an activity that an entire volunteer group can do as a team so we can build community bonds, and include our neighborhood kids to help model community involvement.
Some initial volunteering ideas include:
• Weed Ocean View Farms, Grandview Parkway or North Venice Little League
• Set up a “cheering and candy” station for the Los Angeles Avon Breast Cancer Walk
• Weed and clean leaves and debris from the Mar Vista Library, local schools (including weeding their student garden)
• Clean Fire Station or Mar Vista Park
• Work on a Habitat for Humanity house
• Volunteer for the city arborealist or Tree People
• Beach cleanup with Heal the Bay
• Volunteer at Animal Shelter
• Organize a community bake sale for Share Our Strength – No Kid Hungry. Volunteers would bake and staff the sale at the Mar Vista Market
• Weed and clean-up the VA overgrown orchard
• Volunteer in the kitchen at Ocean Park Community Center
• Staff the Los Angeles Marathon
Do you have any other ideas? We welcome them. Please email volunteer@marvista.org for more info.
